The Door That Was Never Locked

A traveler once heard
that somewhere in the distance
there was a door.

Behind the door, people said,
were the answers to every question.

So he began searching for a key.

He crossed cities,
searched libraries,
and asked many who claimed
to know the truth.

Some sold him maps.
Some sold him keys.
Some said the door did not exist.

Years later,
he finally found it.

He tried every key he had collected.

None of them worked.

Tired, he leaned forward
and gently pushed the door.

It opened.

He stood there for a long time,
unsure whether to laugh
or sigh.

Sometimes people spend a lifetime
looking for keys,

simply because
they forgot to try the door.
