Pudding | The Art of Reclining — Prologue
Long, long ago,
Zhuangzi wandered by the river,
awakening to the Dao,
dreaming with butterflies,
and roaming freely with heaven and earth.
Unfortunately—
Long after he had left this world,
Pudding arrived—far too late—
reincarnated into this one.
That day, she looked up at the sky
and let out a quiet sigh:
“Ah… what a pity.
If only I had been born a few hundred years earlier,
I would have gone straight to his door and begged to be his disciple.”
And so, she had no choice but to follow
an unofficial, folk-derived path:
The Way of Free Wandering —
Reclining Sect.
She studied ancient texts,
copied down wise sayings—
though, truth be told,
it was less cultivation of the Dao
and more cultivation… in bed.
Others practiced wu wei (non-doing),
she practiced “not wanting to try.”
Others followed the flow of life,
she followed the flow… of the mattress.
Others realized Free and Easy Wandering,
she realized:
“Use less effort in life.
Lie down first.
Figure it out later.”
And yet, her mind remained clear.
She could see the absurdity of the world,
the performance of systems,
the quiet exhaustion beneath people’s striving.
And she simply smiled, gently:
“If we cannot escape the world,
then at least…
let’s not exhaust the soul as well.”
Over time, people began to call her:
“The softest branch of the Zhuangzi school—
and perhaps, the most honest one.”
And this
is where Pudding’s path of reclining cultivation begins.
